Navigating Mental Health Care for Forcibly Displaced Communities
In this event through the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, we will discuss the impact and challenges of forced migration and displacement on mental health and wellbeing, including trauma in the context of forced displacement and its impact on integration. With insights from Leena Zahra, MSc, from the Center for Adjustment, Resilience and Recovery (CARRE), this event will highlight strategies for providing effective trauma-informed, culturally responsive services to meet families where they are, with practical examples. We will also explore recommended resources and outlets to further engage in this work.
"Am I in a Dangerous Working Situation?" Preventing Labor Trafficking Among Youth
The Center for Adjustment, Resilience, and Recovery (CARRE), IRC’s Anti-Trafficking Team and Framework are pleased to announce a webinar on Child Labor Trafficking 101. This webinar is about understanding and responding to labor trafficking among children and youth who have experienced forced displacement. Participants will gain information, knowledge, and facilitation insight to help them share this training with others in their organizations and communities.
Self & Collective Attuning: Tending to Emotional Activation in these Acute Times
Join us for a special collaborative session held jointly by the School Crisis Recovery and Renewal project and CARRE (two National Child Traumatic Stress Network Category II sites) to create space for service providers (based in schools or community) who want to engage the practice of attuning and attending to our emotional landscape as we witness institutionally sanctioned and unprecedented death and violence.

Please join this training with the University of Maryland-Baltimore (UMB), intended to support refugee resettlement and other community-based providers in developing more effective and holistic service engagement to better support and align with newcomer children and their families in integration settings. This training opportunity will not be recorded and will be limited to the first 50 participants who register.

Attachment: Understanding the Impact of Early Childhood Trauma for Refugees & Immigrant Children
This webinar, facilitated in partnership with Dr. Alicia F. Lieberman, includes an overview of normative developmental fears for young children and how they can be impacted by the trauma of forced displacement. Practical examples of how parents, caregivers, and providers can support children will be discussed. After viewing this webinar, you will be able to define early childhood trauma in the context of forced displacement, describe the impact of forced displacement on normative developmental fears, and identify strategies for promoting attachment in daily work with children and families.
